Ms. Joyce Washington, t.Lab's Board of Directors Chairwoman from 2008 through 2018 and Chairwoman Emeritus from 2019 to present was a great woman of faith, character, competence, and fortitude. Under Joyce’s leadership, t.Lab served over 3,800 parents and students from all over the world including Kenya, Nigeria, Lebanon, Hungary, and the Philippines. During her Chairwomanship, US-based parents and students realized outstanding results including increasing the median ACT score from 16.3 in 2007 to 30.7 in 2021, while realizing a median GPA of 3.7 and $16.8M in academic scholarships. 95% percent of t.Lab students are pursuing STEM-based careers, especially in health care. Joyce began her corporate career as a registered nurse and rapidly pursued and realized increasing levels of competence and responsibility within several premier health care organizations. This would include Vice President and COO, Michael Reese Hospital and Vice President, Ambulatory Services, Advocate Health Care. Ms. Washington was Managing Partner, Quick Leonard Kiefer, an international executive search firm, headquartered in Chicago, IL. She was the President and CEO of The Washington Group, Ltd, a Chicago-based management consulting firm that she founded in 2001. She was also the Co-Founder of Acquire One, LLC, a private equity firm focused on four industry sectors, including health care, manufacturing, technology services, and media. Prior to her illness, Ms. Joyce Washington was a member of several not-for-profit boards, including Chairperson of Advocate South Suburban Hospital Board of Governors, DuSable Museum Board of Directors, Advocate Trinity Hospital Board of Governors, Hales Franciscan High School Board of Trustees, Woodlawn Community Development Corporation Board of Directors, and the Museum of Science and Industry. In addition, she was an active member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church's Trustee Ministry, a Northern Seminary's Trustee (2016), a member of the Evansville University Board of Trustees, a member of the Chicago Economic Club, The Urban League, NAACP, Rotary Club, and United Way. Joyce was the host of a popular Chicago-based cable TV talk show, Community Matters, her guest included decision-makers and leaders from the church, health care, business, politics, and industry. Ms. Washington’s desire to help others by advocating for better public health led her to run for Lieutenant Governor (Illinois) in 2002, Senate (Illinois) in 2004, and House of Representatives in 2010 (District 2) and 2013 (District 7). Ms. Washington has a BS Degree in Nursing from the University of Evansville and an MS Degree in Public Administration from Indiana State University, and attend numerous post-graduate courses in spirituality, health care, governance, leadership, race car driving, and technology.
